Tyrrell Hatton Almost Goes Hole-In-One In BMW Championship, Almost Throws Flagstick

Tyrrell Hatton is one of the great characters in professional golf. While he’s a soft-spoken guy, he has an incredibly short fuse and isn’t afraid to show a failure. We are talking about one that has broke in a pond during a tournament, broken into a hole of Masters, and broke a tee marker with his driver.

Hatton’s act as he threw a flagstick into the trees at the BMW Championship on Friday was actually one of the calmest things the Englishman has ever done on a golf course.

To set the scene, Hatton is competing in this weekend’s packed BMW Championship at Wentworth. He aimed straight at the Par 3 10th hole during Friday’s second round and hit the ball in the hole, but didn’t drop.

As he took to the green, Hatton grabbed the flagstick causing everyone to hold their breath for a second thinking he was about to toss the flagstick Happy Gilmore style.

On further review, the flag may have had nothing to do with Hatton’s ball not falling into the cup. While the ball was not moving fast enough to avoid falling, it did not hit the flag square. But if it had, the flag actually helped it stay in the hole.

While I personally have never had a shot on my lip that nearly missed a hole-in-one, I witnessed one of my friends fly their tee shot directly into the hole on a Par 3 on this last week only to have it jump right. outside.

All in all, it wasn’t too bad a hole for Hatton. He made his birdie putt en route to a three-under 69 on Friday.
