Tiger Woods continues to walk golf courses … but now he’s carrying clubs, not swinging them.
Woods was in the bag for son Charlie while the younger Woods won the 14-15 age division in the Last Chance Regional of the Notah Begay III National Championship. Charlie Woods fired a 1-under 71 to take a share of the lead, then backed that up with a 6-under 66 to win his division. He will now go on to play in the championships, which are scheduled for early November at the Koasati Pines course at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Louisiana.
You can watch Charlie â wearing red, of course â hit an eight-footer to seal the victory below, with a familiar face watching in the background:
Charlie Woods spoke to the local media afterwards, and his voice and rhythm were very familiar, even if he couldn’t control the interview like his old man did:
Asked about his father caddying for him, Charlie couldn’t have been happier. “It’s great. We just stay in our little world,” he said. “We take it one shot at a time. He puts me in my place. I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus. what we’re going to do.’ ‘ “
Like what was it like facing off against the Woods family? Shane Croft, whose son Chase played alongside Charlie during the tournament, raved about the experience on Instagram.
“Ok, EPIC isn’t really a big word to describe today,” he wrote. “Chase was paired with Tiger Woods’ son Charlie in the Notah Begay tournament at the Mission Inn. Tiger and I were the boys’ caddies. Honestly, there’s no way to express what it was. Four hours of one-on-one Charlie and Tiger is unreal … It’s going to be a story my family talks about when I die one day. And it’s a proud moment for sure.”
Tiger Woods has not played professionally since withdrawing from the Masters in April while he recovers from various injuries. He has no set date for a return.
