Sevilla want to sign out-of-favour Barcelona star on loan – report

Clement Lenglet and Barcelona have made significant efforts to secure the player’s exit, but so far without success.

However, as the summer transfer window draws to a close, the 28-year-old continues to evaluate all the options available to him.

Lenglet appears eager to return to Tottenham, where he spent a year on loan, but negotiations between the two teams have stalled.

The lack of European suitors gave the Frenchman the possibility to join Saudi Arabia.

Sevilla grew

Now, according to Luis F Rojo of MARCA, Sevilla want to re-sign Lenglet on loan and are in contact with Barcelona. The main obstacle at the moment is the high salary of the player.

Lenglet already has experience playing for Sevilla, having officially recorded 73 appearances before Barça signed him in 2018.

Since he had an impressive spell in Seville, the Andalusian outfit are aiming to acquire him and strengthen their defensive line.

Wages are an issue

Although Barcelona want a permanent transfer fee, they are reportedly more receptive to a loan spell, with shedding Lenglet’s £16m wages the biggest priority at the moment.

These large wages also prevented Sevilla from moving. That said, in order to keep the loan agreement, it appears that Barcelona will have to agree to continue paying a portion of his salary.

Lenglet has a decision to make, with Saudi Arabia and Sevilla emerging as realistic options. The player knew he had no shot at regular playing time with Xavi, so he eventually had to make some concessions.
