Historians believe that it took between 20 and 27 years for workers to complete the block by block construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt in 26 BC. At times, Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman may have felt it took too long to rebuild his NHL team through the draft.

Yzerman had five drafts during his time as commander-in-chief. The reviews were good on his first round picks. But like stacking 2.5-ton limestone blocks in the desert, the NHL development process takes time.
