Ons Jabeur gets inspiration from Rafael Nadal because the Tunisian says that the only way is to always look forward and leave the past behind. Jabeur, 28, suffered a heartbreaking and devastating Wimbledon final loss to Marketa Vondrousova.
For Jabeur, it was his third Grand Slam final loss in 12 months and the Tunisian is now 0-3 in his Grand Slam finals played. Throughout the Wimbledon final, it was clear that Jabeur felt a lot of pressure and stress, which made his game very tight.
After failing to achieve his biggest dream again, Jabeur cried. Jabeur’s next shot at winning a Grand Slam is the US Open, where the Tunisian finished as runner-up to Iga Swiatek last year.
But even though Jabeur won’t win this year’s US Open either, he insists he will continue to look ahead.
Jabeur takes inspiration from Nadal
“Rafa once said ‘If, if, if, nothing.’ So for me, ‘if I did this, if I did that,’ I don’t focus on that.
I’m just focusing on what’s happening now. Again, if it doesn’t happen at the US Open, I won’t be sad about it. I’ll just keep trying. If it works, then great, if not, then I guess that’s my fate.
Whatever happens to me, it’s something I can’t change. That’s the beauty of it if you believe it. As long as I’m doing my best, as long as I’m doing 100 percent, I think that’s fair,” said Jabeur in Cincinnati. Ahead of this year’s US Open, Jabeur highlighted she believes she has what it takes to land a Grand Slam.“I believe I have the level to be a Grand Slam champion.
I believe I can be one of the greatest players. Everyone needs time with me, unfortunately. Maybe this is a good thing. We really don’t know. I’m just taking it one day at a time, trying to unlock things that maybe it’s too early for me to unlock, and maybe too early for me to recognize. But I know I’m going the right way,” Jabeur said.
