NFL Week 4 Best Bets: Bills quiet Dolphins hype, Panthers cover vs. Vikings, Buccaneers beat the Saints

Previously in this space, we highlighted Taylor Swift and her many great songs. Unfortunately, it appears that Ms. Swift became popular. Who knows?? No doubt his success is strictly a result of mine latest best bet column — and the wins are mutual, as we’re in the black for the year through three weeks after a 3-2 Week 3 effort.

We want to keep it that way, so it’s best to stick to the music theme right? Maybe we can pair Travis’ brother and podcast co-host, Jason Kelce. It cannot be a Quick gamehowever, because anyone who listens to wild fun”New Heights“You know, Jason is married.

So what about a super weird, localized band? And by super awesome, of course, I mean Ween. Formed in Philly, they had songs like “Freedom of ’76” (with lyrics like “‘Mannequin’ was filmed at Woolworth’s” with shoutouts to “Boyz II Men”). And unlike Taylor Swift, they don’t betray Philly and suddenly became Chiefs fans.

They’re so Philly that they announced a year in advance a show in the City of Brotherly Love where, supposedly, they’ll play “Chocolate and Cheese” in its entirety. See you there, and maybe Jason will join us.

Speaking of Philly, I have the Eagles staying undefeated and covering an 8-point spread against the Commanders this week. Now to choose football. Let’s warm up!

Everyone and their brother wishes they could bet on Miami, and they can’t understand why the Dolphins aren’t favored after dropping 70 to the Broncos last week. It’s a fair question, but it obviously ignores how good Buffalo remains. The Bills are good. Josh Allen is good. The Dolphins are really, really good and Mike McDaniel might be the best coach in the NFL *right now.* Having said all that, Sean McDermott is in his bag defensively for now and Allen took the Week 1 Jets lesson in the heart. If Vic Fangio he actually flips, then you tip your cap. But everyone will turn to the Dolphins here and be shocked if the Bills are the better team. Well, not all.

Chiefs (-9.5) over Jets

Acting like there are “layers” to this is pretty crazy, but sometimes you get a “Taylor Swift needs to show up in New York” game with Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes trying to show off a touch and Andy is determined Reid to keep the score low. Everyone is focused on the Swiftie stuff, but the real masterminds remember that Mahomes is injured and dealing with an ankle injury. The bottom is a slammer here because of Reid’s turf knowledge. The defense of the Chiefs was very good and they did not give up more than 10 points. If you think Kansas City can’t score 21, go ahead and fade them.

You don’t have to bet on this game, but my parents are going to Charlotte for this matchup. And I’ll be damned if I don’t lose Kirk Cousins – even at 1 p.m. — in the interest of hoping my family sees good football. Also … the Vikings defense is bad, they don’t pressure Carolina as much as people expect, and the panthers offensive line / should be fueled by eight (EIGHT!) false starts from last week. This is a quiet desperate Panthers team — even if the Vikings are better, they’ll find a way to let Carolina hold on to a field goal.

The Bucs were hammered by the Eagles on Monday night in atrocious weather, but the Saints suffered an even worse loss on Sunday, coughing up a big lead to the Packers while also losing Derek Carr for a unspecified period of time with stiffness in his AC joint. Carr is “week to week” with an injury and I don’t expect him to play, making this a revenge game for Jameis Winston! Or the Buccaneers, depending on how you look at it? Tampa’s defense has the ability to prey on error-prone quarterbacks and with Jameis error-prone. Baker Mayfield had plenty of time against New Orleans, he was at home, and the Bucs kept it within a field goal.
