Joe Mazzulla is the reason why the Celtics-Malcolm Brogdon relationship is getting worse

After a great performance and winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award, Malcolm Brogdon has officially parted ways with the Boston Celtics. This is not surprising. All this fell apart after reports surfaced of the guard being disgruntled. And, Brad Stevens initially dealt with him in the Kristaps Porzingis sweepstakes. However, maybe there is a deeper reason as to why this trade for Jrue Holiday should be made and it may center around Joe Mazzulla, per Jared Weiss of The Athletic.

Relationships are often strained during the NBA offseason and it’s a reality the Celtics have to deal with. Most fans have it in their minds that Malcolm Brogdon will take over Marcus Smart’s starting role. This is after they traded Porzingis. However, Joe Mazzulla has another plan in their quest for an 18th NBA championship. He instead gave it to Derrick White which may have left a sour taste in Brogdon’s mouth.

The Celtics coach outlined how they are trying to fix the relationship, “I think anytime you are in a situation like that and you are in a relationship. You just need to take some small steps with it. There is a healing process. There is a process of listening to see where we are and where we need to go.

Brad Stevens had a lot of effort trying to keep Brogdon. It ended well for the guard to return despite his desire to be a part of the new NBA organization. Now, he’s on his way to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Jrue Holiday.
