CINCINNATI, Ohio | Jodi Ewart Shadoff hit the fifth ace of her LPGA Tour career during the second round of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G at Kenwood Country Club’s Kendale Course. The Englishwoman birdied the par-3 3rd hole from 161 yards with an 8-iron to record the 14th hole-in-one of the 2023 LPGA Tour season. It was the 35-year-old’s first ace since the 2021 LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, and even though she won’t be playing this weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio, it was a special moment for Ewart Shadoff, especially considering she actually saw the ball find the bottom of the cup.
âIt really hit me. I knew I had to hit a really good one to get it back to the pin. So bounced where I wanted and rolled a bit. I thought it was close, but it just disappeared,” Ewart Shadoff said. “(I was in) disbelief really. It’s nice to see the one that comes in. You usually don’t see it coming in. There was probably one or two people in the crowd there, so we heard them cheering and everyone was happy.
Along with Ewart Shadoff’s hole-in-one, CME will donate $20,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of their CME Group Cares Challenge â Score 1 for St. Jude. The Challenge is a season-long charitable giving program that turns aces into donations with a minimum guaranteed donation of $500,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, leading the way in the world’s understanding, treatment and defeat of childhood and life-threatening cancer. diseases. The LPGA Tour winner’s ace was the second of the day on Friday, raising the 2023 donation total to $280,000.
Contributing to the CME Group Cares Challenge in 2019 and 2021, Ewart Shadoff was happy to be able to do it again on Friday at the Kroger Queen City Championship and knows better than most how important this LPGA Tour campaign is. “Obviously, very happy to do my part,” he said, “and happy that such a large amount is going to such a good cause.”
