CONWAY, SC – Former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Anthony Veneziano has been called up to the Major League level by the Kansas City Royals, the team announced on Tuesday, Sept.
Veneziano joined Zach Remillard of the Chicago White Sox as former Chanticleers currently on MLB rosters.
Veneziano played three seasons for the Chants from 2017-19 before being selected in the 10th round (289th pick) by the Kansas City Royals in the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft.
The lefty finished his college career with a 14-6 record and an ERA of 5.09. He struck out 187 batters in 176.2 innings pitched. The Hackettstown, NJ, native held opponents to a .258 batting average for his career, which ranks 25th all-time in CCU’s career record book.
During the 2022-23 season, the southpaw pitcher jumped from the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (5-1, 2.13 ERA) to the Omaha Storm Chasers (5-4, 4.22 ERA) with a combined record of 10-5 and a 3.17 ERA. On the year, Veneziano had 127 strikeouts and only walked 48 batters.
