Initial reactions and observations
- Daniel Peretz is a fantastic goalkeeper and should start for Bayern Munich going forward. The man is on a mission and is sometimes the only one standing between Bayern’s midfield and the goal post. And he delivered.
- Mathys Tel is unstoppable and he will win Bayern Munich the Champions League. This should be self-explanatory if you’re watching the game.
- Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich are absolute machines. Their work rates and passing were crucial in securing victory, and this should be the start of the midfield partnership going forward.
- Thomas Tuchel’s team really pressed and attacked with purpose. How much time has changed!
- Some bright debuts for Krätzig and Fukui.
FT: Bayern Munich 4-0 Preußen Münster.
85′ — GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAL!!! Mathys Tel smashes the ball into the net with an assist from… Bouna Sarr?!!!! What on earth?!
63′ — Taichi Fukui made his first-team debut for Bayern Munich, while Bouna Sarr and Raphaël Guerreiro also entered the pitch.
46′ — And here we go again!
halftime: Bayern Munich lead 3-0.
45′ + 5′ — GOOOOOOOOOAL! Franz Kratzig makes it 3-0!
40′ — GOOOOOOOAL! Konrad Laimer makes it 2-0!
39′ — HOW DID SCHENK STOP? Fantastic save by the loanee to deny Goretzka.
30′ — Okay, the game is paused again. Bayern Munich fans seem to be protesting. Tennis balls are thrown on the pitch.
10′ — Sub: Serge Gnabry repeats Franz Kratzig.
8′ — GOOOOOOOAL! Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting makes it 1-0!
7′ — Gnabry is back on the pitch.
5’— As if things couldn’t get any worse for Bayern Munich, Serge Gnabry went down. He landed on his arm after a challenge from Johannes Schenk, and it must have hurt him badly. Bayern is under ten.
kickoff: You can barely see, but we’re still going!
The game is delayed: The kickoff was delayed due to the large number of fireworks. There was so much smoke, you couldn’t see anything there.
Meanwhile, according to Tuchel, Noussair Mazraoui and Leon Goretzka are at centre-back.
One hour until kick off: We have lineups! It’s a little funny, because Bayern Munich started with exactly zero centers in the center of the team. Mathys Tel and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting started up top, supported by Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry. Joshua Kimmich is the captain and could be at centre-back with possibly Konrad Laimer, and Goretzka and Musiala could be in midfield (or it could be a 4-1-4-1 or even a 0-3-4-1 because why not).
Dayot Upamecano and Thomas Muller are not yet in the squad.
Bayern Munich are back in action in the DFB Pokal and will really want to win this time. This competition can be tougher than that Champions League in recent times, ad Bayern usually at least reach the quarter-finals of those.
Against Preußen Münster, Bayern Munich will look to begin what is expected to be the club’s first successful Pokal campaign since the 2020 treble under Hansi Flick. However, since this is a game against a lower ladder 3.Liga club, some new faces are expected in the starting XI. Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz could start, as could the likes of Mathys Tel and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. It’s fun to see a different kind of lineup — a breather before the fixtures get intense again.
It’s time for Bayern.
