The game effectively ended as a contest within 38 minutes after well taken goals by Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus.
Martin Odegaard added a fine fourth after the interval and Mikel Arteta made a number of changes to save his key players for Sunday’s north London derby.
Dan Kilpatrick was at the Emirates Stadium to rate Arsenal’s players…
David Raya 8
Not seriously tested but did a series of rescue routines, and everything he did was secured. Feels like No1 at the moment, despite what Arteta said.
Ben White 7
Kept the busiest of the back four and was booked for a foul on Sergino Dest in the first half. But advanced well and played his part.
William Saliba 8
Dealt comfortably with the poor Luuk De Jong and was composed in possession as always.
Gabriel 8
Started the excellent move towards Arsenal’s third goal, all but killing the fixture, and stood up to Johan Bakayoko when the winger went in.
Oleksandr Zinchenko 8
Arsenal’s most experienced player at this level runs the game from left back, stepping into the middle of the pitch to win the ball every time.
Martin Odegaard 9
Scored a brilliant fourth goal on a wild drive after making a yard. Created the opener when his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Walter Benitez and was at the heart of much of Arsenal’s attacking play.
Declan Rice 8
Imperious in his first performance in the competition, earned a standing ovation in the second half after an all-action display.
Kai Havertz 7
Brought Arsenal forward for the fourth goal and was involved in some great parts of the game. His feet have yet to be found but this result should do his confidence in the world of good.
Bukayo Saka 9
His goal was well taken to get Arsenal back up and running in this contest before squaring over for Trossard’s excellent second.
Leandro Trossard 9
Fantastic finish from the edge of the box to double Arsenal’s lead and made it the third goal with a pinpoint cross. Arsenal will not forget Gabriel Martinelli if the Belgian continues to play like this.
Gabriel Jesus 8
Made it 3-0 with a beautiful finish after controlling Trossard’s cross first time. Earlier reacted first to win possession ahead of the second goal but should have finished the night with more than one.
