Rafael Nadal explained that he is completely open to the idea of playing doubles with Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Nadal, who won a gold medal for Spain in the singles tournament at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, plans to retire in 2024.
Next year, Nadal hopes to play in at least two select tournaments and competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics is high on his wish list. “As for the fact of playing doubles with Carlos, I haven’t had the slightest conversation with him about that.
But I also want and this is a good motivation, another incentive for me to close my Olympic cycle playing with Carlos, with everything he has achieved, with young people and with a good future that is ahead of him,” Nadal said Diario AS.
Alcaraz said it was ‘a dream’ to play with Nadal
Alcaraz, 20, will make his Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Over the summer, Alcaraz was asked how he felt about the possibility of playing doubles with Nadal at the Olympics next year.
“A dream. Not just to win a medal in singles or doubles, but just to live the experience of playing doubles with your idol, will be a memory that I will keep with special affection.” Alcaraz told COPE in July.
Just days before Alcaraz said he wanted to play doubles with Nadal at the Olympics, he became the first Spanish man since Nadal in 2010 to win Wimbledon. “Congratulations @carlosalcaraz. You gave us great joy today and I am sure that our pioneer of Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, is also happy wherever he is.
A very strong hug and enjoy the moment, Champion!!!,” Nadal wrote to X after Alcaraz’s final victory at Wimbledon against Novak Djokovic.
