Mohamed Salah was the subject of a £150m bid on transfer deadline day, which was rejected by Liverpool chiefs, with the attacker continuing to put in a man of the match performance in the win over Wolves
Liverpool made a subtle change when announcing their fan-voted man of the match, in a move designed for Mohamed Salah.
Salah was the subject of a £150million bid on transfer deadline day, which was rejected by the Reds. Instead he stayed at Anfield and bagged two assists on Saturday to help Jurgen Klopp’s side complete a comeback win against Wolves.
His performance at Molineux saw him voted man of the match by Liverpool supporters, which the Reds immediately posted on Twitter. In the four previous games this term the accolade was announced alongside an image clearly showing the Carlsberg logo.
But for Saturday’s post, that sponsorship branding was removed, in apparent appreciation of the fact that Salah is a Muslim. As a result, a decision was made not to associate Salah with the beer company, which prohibits alcohol in Islam.
Salah more than deserved his personal award, passing the milestone of 200 Premier League goals for Liverpool with his two assists. He first teed up Cody Gakpo to equalize before playing the ball in that saw Andy Roberston put the visitors in front.
The duo of assists took Egypt’s top-flight assist tally to 62, with Salah also scoring 139 league goals since arriving at Anfield in 2017. He is the eighth player to achieve the double -century for a club in the Premier League era.

He is also the second fastest player to reach the landmark, with only Thierry Henry ahead of him. Salah’s performance delighted boss Klopp, who was full of praise for his star man.
“He’s incredible, he’s involved in everything. The first half wasn’t good, obviously, but then – again – a different system and he’s an important player, for sure. He’s always there when we need him. Like at all. , really picked up in the second half,” he said.
“Usually you learn things like this later in the season about your team. Obviously we learned quickly, pretty early. Yeah, we’re not stable yet, no. I think with all the changes -o that we did today and also this game today, how can we be stable?
“I didn’t ask for that. I asked to try everything, to take the next steps and things like this. In the first half it was obviously not the case but the second half more and that helped a lot .

“Of course, getting the games back helps every time it happens in the season. That we don’t have to come to situations often is also clear, but for now it’s absolutely okay. You have to play as much as we can.
“The second half before, I experienced it now a few times when you have difficult weeks, when players come back, then I hope it doesn’t happen often but sometimes it happens. But the reaction is top-class .”
