A celebratory day capped off an epic comeback for the Colorado Buffaloes.
But amid the joy came the reality that they could be playing without their best player for a while.
CU star cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter was ejected in Saturday’s game against in-state rival Colorado State. Hunter was hit late by CSU’s Henry Blackburn on an incomplete pass late in the first quarter at Folsom Field. He then took off his helmet and stayed on the ground for a few minutes.
After the game, head coach Deion Sanders did not address Hunter’s specific injury, but said he could be out for a while.
“I think coach Ray (Forsett) is going to the hospital to check on him,” Sanders said. “First thing I heard he was going to be out for a few weeks. I heard that for sure. But we will do what we have to do to take care of him. I know Travis like a book. Maybe he wants to go out for two weeks. But we have to make sure… his health is more important than this game.
One of the best players in the country and the only one to play full-time on both sides of the ball, Hunter returned to the game after the big hit, but only briefly. In the third quarter CU announced that Hunter was out for the rest of the game and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. Blackburn were penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness on Hunter.
A standout cornerback and receiver, Hunter caught two passes for 21 yards before leaving the game. He also recorded two tackles on defense.
