Watch the Penguins’ new video scoreboard come to life

The in-game experience at Pittsburgh Penguins games is about to get bigger.

Bigger.

The team shared on social media a progress video of a huge new video board that will hang above the ice at PPG Paints Arena, which is bigger than the one fans have been used to for the past 13 years.

The video shows the ice melting and the old video board being lowered to the floor – and completely disintegrating.

The new base structure erected around it shows how big the updates are. It is almost double the size of the old one.

Finally, fans will get a preview with the Penguins logo scrolling across the new board.

The team in March announced plans to improve the arena for the upcoming season. Apart from the video board, there are now upgraded LED ribbon boards, sound system, control room and content management system.

Two so-called “bunker” suites will offer dining and entertainment areas, full-service bars and private restrooms on ice level. A VIP event level club is at one end of the rink with a capacity of up to 300 people.

All the upgrades are expected to cost more than $30 million, according to the team.

The first preseason game is scheduled for Sept. 24. The team’s season officially opens on October 10.
