Liverpool could have the chance to appoint Jurgen Klopp’s perfect replacement thanks to a ‘secret deal’.
After signing his extension, Klopp said: “There are many words I can use to describe how I feel about this news … delighted, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited to be a starter.
“There are so many people who love this place. I know that before I came here, I knew it more after I came and now I know it more than before.
However, Klopp’s future is in question during the 22/23 season due to Liverpool’s poor form.
Planning ahead when Klopp leaves his position as manager, Liverpool could appoint Xabi Alonso due to a ‘secret agreement’.
According to German news outlet Sport Bild, via Get Football News GermanyAlonso has a secret agreement with Bayer Leverkusen that allows him to leave the club if he wants.
This comes despite the fact that he extended his contract with the club last week until 2026.
It is reported that if a club shows interest in Alonso and Leverkusen presents a suitable offer, the Spaniard can freely leave the German Bundesliga side.
Alonso was appointed as Leverkusen’s boss at the start of last season and completely transformed the team from fighting relegation to challenging for the European places.
After signing his contract, Alonso said: “I am very grateful for the confidence that Bayer 04 has shown in me. The fact that we are convinced of the same ideas and direction on the pitch, creates a close relationship and trust between the management of club and myself.
“There is also a very good and relaxed basis to work on a daily basis. That also makes it very pleasant to work with my staff and all the employees of Bayer 04. I see last season as positive. But I want the more, as the club wants. We are now working on that with ambition.”
Leverkusen kick off their Bundesliga campaign on Saturday against RB Leipzig at the BayArena.
